Thrice-crowned NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "devastating" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 to the Heat.

Jokic sustained the injury towards the end of the second quarter during an inadvertent coming together with fellow Nugget Jones.

His teammate stepped on the footwear of the big man, and he immediately collapsed to the ground holding his knee.

The veteran player, who is leading the league season in rebounds and assists, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to incurring the problem.

He will have an scan on the following day to evaluate the extent of the issue.

"Immediately, Jokic understood something was wrong," said Nuggets coach Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Whoever who suffers an injury, that's difficult, most notably somebody as talented as Jokic. More information will come on Tuesday."

"The team will adjust together. Clearly, at this moment, I'm focused just about Jokic as a person and the letdown of going through a situation of that nature."
