Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the party access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists parties.
