The Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup With the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden World Series since the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the ALCS.

Behind three runs to one, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a four games to three win in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, our country," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now connected for 23 total playoff homers, making him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the one club that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it hurts" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we ended up on the wrong side of this game," he added.

Toronto's team claimed the title on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
