American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in an excellent position" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, after earning a top-three finish for the fourth instance in five World Cup events. The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish. Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere Returning to the French Alps resort for the first time in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot. "I didn't quite have enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn remarked. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm pleased with my skiing today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative." This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday. An Incredible Return from Retirement Vonn officially retired in February 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in late 2024 following a partial knee replacement. With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are timely. She has one gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the 2026 Games. "At the Olympics, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed. Aiming for Further Glory Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has won over a career spanning two decades. She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table. This current World Cup circuit includes a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
