Former Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors have stated that a former physician has been charged with carrying out sexual assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.

The Serious Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of sexual offences – comprising some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

A deputy chief CPS official said, “Legal teams have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations follow what police described as a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents said the forty-five charges he is charged with:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
