The British designer Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer who crafted many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, most notably the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

His passing follows less than a month after he debuted his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
